The hormones stimulate the growth of about 15 to 20 eggs in the ovaries, each in its own "shell," called a follicle. The arterial supply to the uterine tubes is from branches of the uterine and ovarian arteries, small vessels that are located within the mesosalpinx. So, for example, a person could be born with a penis, but identify as female. The ovaries are small, oval-shaped glands that are located on either side of the uterus.
